Inspiration | Ever After at The Everly KC
I have an absolute love of styled shoots. They keep my expanded portfolio looking fresh af, they are wonderful networking opportunities, and they are super creative shoots that allow me to both experiment and refine.
My recent shoot at The Everly is definitely one of my absolute favorites. Partially this is because I was the only photographer present, which gave me a lot of room to play unlike most styled shoots; mostly, this was because the entire atmosphere was styled to be dark and romantic, as my images most naturally appear. I didn’t quite realize how beautiful this shoot would be until I showed up and my jaw hit the floor over the ceremony backdrop. Once they added the votive candles along the aisle I thought I was gonna cry. The entire atmosphere was warm and soft, set aglow by candle light, string lights adorning the ceiling, and refined further by spot lights to illuminate the backdrop just so.
The Everly itself is an incredibly versatile space; it has an industrial, modern look, but a warm and nostalgic air about itself that is incredibly inviting. Tucked in the heart of The Crossroads it becomes something utterly of Kansas City, and provides access to many local historic markers. Incorporating the surrounding locations into the shoot was very important. So naturally I forced the models to walk a block down the road to Town Topic for a few pictures. Strangers congratulating them on their non-marriage along the way!
