Aretha & Donald were a couple I was extremely excited about from the very first meeting. As a referral from Bespoke Socials, I knew the vision for their wedding day would be elaborate and unique. Unfortunately, the universe had other plans, and although their wedding was stunningly fabulous, I couldn't be there to personally photograph it. My associates Deanna and Riley did a splendid job documenting their day—which is the most a photographer can hope for when she's stuck post-emergency operation learning to walk again. (It's fine, it's fine. I can walk now.) Regardless, I usually don't share associate shot work on my website, even if theirs was maybe the most authentic a wedding shot on my behalf has ever looked. With that, I present to you, their engagement session.
Aretha & Donald could not be more different in their regard for photography. Aretha loved it, basked in it. She embraced my editorial posing, and even asked for some more traditional poses, as well. Donald was the complete opposite. I approached their session with editorial as the base approach, knowing that's the look they primarily wanted. However. I would introduce an action based pose here and there. I did this specifically to get him to crack a smile. It worked! Their wardrobe was also next level. They selected outfits that played off the the moody interiors of Noir, and contrasted with the gritty backdrop of downtown; making for a shoot that exuded elegance, romance, and power.
